1)
Q
:
Where is active*talk from?
A
:

active*talk is based on American teaching methodology but it is restructured to suit Asian needs and cultures.

2)
Q
:
What is the medium of instruction in the class?
A
:

100% in English unless in very rare and special situations.

3)
Q
:
What if the students don’t understand English explanation?
A
:
active*talk’s approach is that we are creating a 100% English speaking environment similar to a foreign
country where students will learn the meaning of our lessons in a broad context rather than word-by-word basis. Just like babies learning their first language; we never explain the meaning of words to babies, we just talk to them and show them.
We avoid explaining in other language so that students will not develop a bad habit of mentally translating their mother tongue into English. Otherwise, their spoken English will sound weird.
We train our students to think in English whenever they speak in English.
4)
Q
:
Is one week one lesson enough to improve their spoken English?
A
:
To improve in spoken English, one needs time and suitable environment to practise. One week one time
might not be ideal. However, it is definitely much better than those kids who do not have the opportunity
to be exposed to spoken English program at all.
In active*talk, we are teaching the proper spoken English and giving every student the opportunity to
speak in the class during every lesson. In other words, we are like giving our students the ‘tool’ which is
the knowledge of ‘good’ English. It is up to them to use the tool when it is necessary, especially when
they grow up.
5)
Q
:
Does active*talk program help in my children’s school exams or government exams?
A
:
active*talk is teaching practical English such as Public Speaking, Conversation Practice,  Practical
Vocabulary and Practical Grammar. These are the subjects that are not included in most government
exams. active*talk does not emphasize on essay-writing because we want to allocate more time for

students to learn their spoken English.

Therefore, students might need to take up some other tuition which is exam-oriented.

6)
Q
:
How long does it take to see results?
A
:
Generally, in four months, you can see with your own eyes your child standing on a stage, delivering a
speech/story with good pronunciation and intonation to an audience consists of parents and members of
the public.
7)
Q
:
My child is very shy. Can she actually speak to an audience?
A
:
Most parents enrol their children in active*talk because they are shy to speak in the public. This is
exactly what active*talk does. We help students to overcome shyness or stage fright using the

active*talk methods.

8)
Q
:
Does active*talk has assessment?
A
:
Yes. Assessment for Standard Program is held at the end of every term which is every 4 months. 50% is
spoken assessment (Public Speaking) while 50% is written assessment (Vocabulary, Grammar and
Conversation Practice). Assessment for Junior Program is held individually when a kid has completed

their particular levels. i.e. according to the progress of the kid.

9)
Q
:
Are your teachers trained?
A
:
Yes. All our coaches have to go through orientation and training before they handle their class
independently. Even those teachers who have experience in teaching line must go through the same
training before they can conduct active*talk classes. Besides, all our coaches attend training on a

monthly basis so as to maintain the quality in conducting active*talk classes.
